There are many historical temples in India, which are amazing in themselves. Venugopal Swamy Temple located in Karnataka is one of these wonderful temples. Venugopal Swamy Temple is located near Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam in Hausa Kannambadi, Karnataka.
This temple was originally built by the Hoysala dynasty in the 12th century. This temple has been in water for 70 years and in 2011, its renovation has been completed.
The Krishna Raja Sagar Dam Project was conceived by Sir M. Visvesvaraya in the year 1909, when the temple complex was located in Kannambari.
The completion of the KRS dam project was likely to submerge the Kanambadi village and other settlements around it.
The then King of Mysore, Krishna King Wadiyar IV, ordered the construction of a new village for the residents of Kannambadi and named it Hausa Kannambadi i.e. Naya Kannambadi.
The original temple complex was spread over an area of about 50 acres. The temple was submerged in water for over 70 years since the completion of the KRS dam.
The Khode Foundation then took over the task of relocating and restoring the temple. As of December 2011, the restoration of the temple has been completed.
People have to pay 30 rupees for simultaneous entry in temple and dam. At the same time, for entry into the temple, one has to pay 15 rupees as fee.
